CATEGORIES:
All entries must fall within one of the following categories and be within the specified word count:

* Short story (2000 - 2500 words)*
* Creative nonfiction (2000 - 2500 words)*
* Poetry (1000 - 2000 words)*

* Word count excludes titles. Texts above or below the specified word count will be disqualified. An electronic version of short listed texts may be required to check the word count. See the FAQ section of our website for further details on how to count the words in your submission.

The short story category is a fiction category open to short prose works, generally narrative.

Creative nonfiction is a nonfiction category that includes humour writing, memoir, biography, essay (including personal essay), travel writing, and feature articles. Works submitted in this category should be accessible to a general reading audience (i.e., not written for a specialized or academic audience.)

Poetry entries may take the form of a long narrative poem, a sequence of connected poems or a group of unconnected poems whose total word count (excluding the titles) is between 1000 and 2000 words.

HOW TO SUBMIT
The official print or online entry form must accompany all print and electronic entries.

The name of the entrant must not appear anywhere on the text to ensure that entries are anonymous for the readers and the judges. No fax or handwritten entries will be accepted. Please do not staple your entry or send bound documents. Paper clips are fine. Print your text on one side only, on white 8 1/2 by 11 paper. All submissions are final: no changes or substitutions are allowed.

The entry fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Entries can be submitted online using the electronic entry form that you will find in our Entry Form section. Electronic entries must be sent as Word (.doc), Wordperfect (.wpd) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) files.

Acknowledgement of receipt will be sent via email to those who provide a valid email address. If you want to receive acknowledgment by regular mail, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your entry.

Please note that entries will not be returned and that editorial comments will not be given on the entries.

FEES

A fee of $20.00 (tax included) for administration purposes is required for each entry. This non-refundable and non-transferable fee covers some of the administrative costs of this competition.

Entries will not be eligible until payment has been received.

Please note that the entry fee will not be refunded if your submission is ineligible.

Cheques and money orders must be sent along submissions.

Please write the title of your entry on them and make them payable to:

Please note that online payment is accepted only for entries submitted via our website.

For online submissions, instructions for online payment will be sent to entrants along with their acknowledgement of receipt.
