Arts cuts in Canada

Some of you will have heard already about the slashing of arts funding by
the Conservative government in Canada. Of particular concern are the loss of
the Trade Routes program that supports travel of Canadian artists abroad and
the Canadian New Media Fund, though really we are looking at a government
that doesn't understand the arts or their importance.

The government here is about to call a snap election, the announcement
should happen Sunday.

An interdisciplinary group of artists have formed a group called the
Department of Culture to strategize and campaign around the arts funding
issues. It is in the very early stages but your support and participation
would be appreciated. There is a website with more infomation:
