Brantford Writing Workshop

The third annual Summer Writing Workshops in Brantford Ontario is now accepting applications. The registration form is attached. Our first two years filled quickly, so if you're interested, get your application form in soon.

Brantford Summer Writing Workshops

Dates: August 11 to 14, 2008
Times: 10:00 to 3:00

The way the days will be organized are like this:

10 til 11 -- writing exercises conducted by either Marsha or another instructor
11 to 12 -- presentation by one of our speakers
12 to 1 -- lunch, (there will be an option to have it delivered) but also blue pencil sessions with 11am speaker and 1pm speaker
1 to 2 -- presentation by one of our speakers or continuation of blue pencils
2 to 3 -- writing exercises by Marsha or another instructor

Writing workshop topics will be determined by consensus once we've reached our enrollment limit, with the exception of those already established (ie, Brenda's amazing workshops!)


Monday
10:00 to 11:00 – Marsha Skrypuch – opening lecture/writing workshop
11:00 to 12:00 – McArthur & Co president, Kim McArthur – how her company got started and what McAurthur & Co is looking for

12 to 1 – lunch and blue pencils and/or Q&A with Kim McArthur and Heather Summerhays

1 to 2 – Heather Cariou Summerhays, author of Sixty-Five Roses, a memoir, will tell how she got published. Q&A

2 to 3 – writing workshop

Tuesday
10:00 to 11:00 – Marsha Skrypuch – writing workshop
11:00 to 12:00 – Marc Cote, president and publisher of Cormorant Press, will talk about trends in publishing and advice for those breaking in to the market.

12 to 1 – lunch and blue pencils and/or Q&A with Marc Cote, also blue pencil sessions with Kofi Campbell

1 to 2 – Blue pencils and/or Q&A continue with Marc Cote

2 to 3 – writing workshop/blue pencils continue with Marc


Wednesday
10:00 to 11:00 – Marsha Skrypuch – writing workshop
11:00 to 12:00 – Margaret Hart, literary agent for Humber School for Writers

12 to 1 – lunch and blue pencils and/or Q&A with Margaret Hart

1 to 2 – Blue pencils continue with Margaret Hart. Q&A

2 to 3 – writing workshop, Brenda Kearns, Breaking into the magazine market


Thursday
10:00 to 11:00 – writing workshop, Brenda Kearns, How to write for magazines so editors keep coming back for more.

11:00 to 12:00 – Fitzhenry & Whiteside children's publisher, Gail Winskill – how to get published/what Fitzhenry & Whiteside is looking for

12 to 1 – lunch and blue pencils and/or Q&A with Gail Winskill

1 to 2 – Sean Cassidy, children's picture book author and illustrator, will tell how he got published. Q&A

2 to 3 – writing workshop
